The book does a good job paraphrasing the film so you don’t HAVE to watch it, but do yourself a favor and take the 5 minutes to watch it - it will set the tone for the book. The writing in the book is written in the 3rd person, as if there is a narrator watching events unfold. It’s very much a "fantasy" type of story telling and does a wonderful job to create a universe in which these creatures live. I like the tie ins with music and orchestra as well. As others have mentioned this book can be read to a child or read alone by an adult. The story is easy to follow and allows the imagination to take hold. Pick up a copy of this book. The film leaves you with a cliff-hanger and a million questions, so I was happy that the book picked up right where the film ends and expands on the world of The Makers. The writers paint the world in a lot of detail and wrap up the story in a satisfying way. The book is an easy read and I don’t think you have to watch the film to enjoy it, but it wouldn’t hurt.
